The US Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC) no longer considers digital assets as potential risks

PANews December 12 News, according to CoinDesk, the cryptocurrency sector no longer needs to be listed annually in the Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC) report as a risk to the U.S. financial system. However, this is not an isolated case, as the report has actually shifted its focus away from the “vulnerabilities” of the financial system. The 2025 FSOC report’s table of contents has completely removed the frequently appearing term “vulnerabilities,” and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent acknowledged in the opening letter of the report that past analyses focused on identifying dangers that could disrupt the financial system. This 2025 report does not include “recommendations” regarding digital assets, nor does it explicitly express concerns about the industry. Its section on digital assets details how U.S. financial regulatory agencies with cryptocurrency oversight have changed their previous policy stances. The report mostly praises the advantages of the digital asset sector but notes in the “Illegal Finance” subsection that stablecoins may be “abused to facilitate illegal financial transactions.” However, the report also states, “In the next ten years, the continued use of dollar-denominated stablecoins is expected to further solidify the dollar’s position in the international financial system.”
