#DOT Hackers created 1 billion DOT tokens on the Ethereum mainnet and subsequently sold them.
According to CertiK, the breach stemmed from a vulnerability in the Hyperbridge gateway, which enabled attackers to forge messages and gain control over the administrator role of a Polkadot token contract on Ethereum. The exploit generated an estimated profit of around $237,000.
Because liquidity was limited, the overall damage remained relatively contained. South Korean exchanges Upbit and Bithumb have since suspended DOT deposits and withdrawals.
