The FBI: Americans aged 60 and over lost nearly $3 billion due to encryption eyewash in 2024.

According to Mars Finance, the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) reported that in 2024, “people aged 60 and above suffered the most losses in Crypto Assets-related scams,” with a total of 33,369 complaints and losses amounting to $2.84 billion. The “40 to 49 age group” is the second largest victim group, with losses of $1.46 billion. Throughout the year, IC3 received “149,686 complaints related to Crypto Assets, with total losses reaching $9.3 billion,” an increase of 66% year-on-year. The FBI warns that the public should “immediately report suspected cyber crimes to the FBI.”
