Dogecoin Developers Eye Tesla Payment Integration

Dogecoin enthusiasts have recently rekindled discussions about the future of the meme coin after a shared observation on the social media platform X. KrissPax, a Dogecoin enthusiast, highlighted an interesting detail indicating that DOGE is the only cryptocurrency currently embedded in the payment code for Tesla's Cybertruck and Model 3. Interestingly, this aligns with the current price surge sentiment surrounding DOGE and rumors of Tesla's official plans to accept DOGE as a payment method. Dogecoin code in Tesla's payment: A long-standing detail being reconsidered The integration of Dogecoin into Tesla's payment infrastructure has long been known, but its recent resurgence has attracted attention. Notably, it coincided with a significant price correction for this meme cryptocurrency. Back in October 2023, reports emerged of references to DOGE in the source code of Tesla's Cybertruck payment page. Notably, cryptocurrency influencer MartyParty identified over 50 references to Dogecoin in the code. However, this new interest stems from a recent post by Dogecoin enthusiast KrissPax on social media platform X. He emphasized the presence of DOGE in Tesla's payment system, saying: Just remember, there's Dogecoin in the Cybertruck and Model 3 Tesla payment code. Not any other cryptocurrency - only Dogecoin. Just wait for Tesla to enable this option! Although Tesla's Cybertruck has been launched, this year, the DOGE payment feature has not been activated. However, its presence in the code indicates that Tesla is still leaving the door open for DOGE transactions in the future. What does this mean for DOGE? Tesla CEO Elon Musk has long been a fervent supporter of Dogecoin, often mentioning its use for everyday transactions. His enthusiasm for DOGE has been clearly demonstrated through various public endorsements, including Tesla's decision in January 2022 to begin accepting DOGE as a payment method for certain items. This effort has generated some utility for DOGE, which is known for its meme status. However, the final integration of DOGE as a payment method for Tesla cars will be a game-changer in creating utility for this meme currency of the electric vehicle manufacturer. Such a big move not only improves the adoption of Dogecoin but also opens up another avenue for money flow, thereby benefiting its price growth. Furthermore, other companies may follow in Tesla's footsteps and turn DOGE into a payment method. The interesting thing is that this is not the first time Tesla has accepted cryptocurrency as payment for its vehicles. Back in 2021, Tesla began allowing customers to use Bitcoin as a form of payment. However, this initiative did not last long, as Tesla stopped accepting Bitcoin payments just a few months later due to concerns about the environmental impact of the increasing energy consumption of Bitcoin mining and transactions. At the time of writing, Dogecoin is trading at $0.3842, down 0.92% and 1.69% over the past 24 hours and seven days, respectively.
