Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff called for the President's impeachment after Trump announced he would hold a "gala dinner" for the high-profile investors of his memecoin.

Ossoff criticized Trump's action as a "direct interaction sale" and described it as an "impeachable offense."

In a video shared by Georgia political reporter Greg Bluestein, Ossoff addressed a visibly angry crowd, saying, "There is no doubt that if the sitting President of the United States is selling influence in exchange for payments made directly to him, it rises to the level of an impeachable offense."

The House of Representatives has the authority to impeach a federal official, including the president, for treason, bribery, or "other high Crimes and Misdemeanors." If impeached, the President is tried in the Senate, where a two-thirds majority is required for removal.

Trump, who was accused twice in his early term and acquitted by the Senate in both instances, positioned himself as an advocate for the crypto industry during his current presidency.

However, Trump's personal involvement in cryptocurrency ventures has raised ethical concerns. Among the businesses linked to Trump and his family are World Liberty Financial, which issues stablecoins, Bitcoin mining ventures, crypto-based ETFs, and memecoins named after both the president and the First Lady.

The latest discussion revolves around the TRUMP memecoin, which announces that the top 220 investors will be invited to a gala dinner with the president at a Virginia golf club on May 22. Those who make it into the top 25 will also receive VIP treatment, including a reception with Trump and a tour of the White House.

Since the announcement, the value of the TRUMP token has increased by more than 40%. It is estimated that Trump and his close associates own 80% of the token supply, which is currently valued at approximately 10.8 billion dollars.
