The world's largest financial derivatives exchange operator, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) Group, recently announced that Ripple (XRP) futures contracts will be launched on May 19.
According to the announcement on April 24, investors can choose a mini contract that includes 2,500 XRP or a standard contract that includes 50,000 XRP. All XRP futures contracts will be cash settled.
In January 2025, CME Group hinted at the imminent launch of XRP futures, but then quietly removed the page from its website.
CME's announcement is the latest example in the growing wave of cryptocurrency financial products in the U.S. market, which have either already entered the market or are awaiting regulatory approval, indicating that cryptocurrencies have reached a new level of institutional recognition.
On March 17, Solana futures were launched on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. The standard contract size for the SOL contract is 500 SOL, and a micro contract of 25 SOL is also available to make participation easier.
In April 2025, the asset management company Canary Capital submitted an application to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for a Tron (TRX) staking exchange-traded fund (ETF).
The ETF proposed by the asset management company will hold spot TRX and stake some tokens to generate returns. As of the time of publication, the staking yield for TRX is 4.5%.
On April 22, Crypto.com signed an agreement with Trump Media Technology Group (TMTG) to launch an ETF that tracks U.S. crypto projects.
The ETF will be issued under the name Truth.Fi, which is President Trump's decentralized finance project, and is expected to begin trading later in 2025.
According to Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas, there are currently over 70 cryptocurrency ETF applications awaiting SEC review.
Eric stated in a post on platform X on April 21: "From Ripple (XRP), Litecoin, and Solana, to Penguins, Doge, and 2x Melania, there’s everything. It’s going to be a crazy year."
