Ethereum founder Vitalik discusses the future of AI: Why "Augmenting Humans" is more important than pursuing fully autonomous AI
【CryptoWorld】Ethereum founder Vitalik recently shared his thoughts on the development direction of AI laboratories. He believes that new AI projects should prioritize “enhancing human capabilities” rather than blindly pursuing fully autonomous decision-making systems.
Specifically, Vitalik recommends that such projects explicitly avoid developing systems capable of independent decision-making beyond 1 minute. This time limit may seem specific, but it actually reflects his deep understanding of AI risks—leaving enough room for human intervention is crucial.
Interestingly, he pointed out a somewhat ironic current phenomenon: even if all concerns about AI safety are proven unfounded, the market is already flooded with companies pursuing fully autonomous super artificial intelligence (ASI). In contrast, AI projects that truly focus on “building exoskeletons for the human brain” to help humans enhance cognition and abilities are scarce.
He finally urges that these types of enhancement-focused AI projects should adopt an open-source approach as much as possible. The benefits are obvious: higher transparency, stronger community participation, and easier safety reviews.
