December 19, 2025 – The US Senate, in a vote held on Thursday night, December 18, 2025, confirmed President Donald Trump's nominee, Michael Selig, as the Chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) with a 53-43 vote. The confirmation was a package vote along with FDIC Chairman nominee Travis Hill. Michael Selig (or Mike Selig) previously served as the Chief Legal Counsel and Senior Advisor to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Crypto Task Force. Known for his pro-crypto approach, Selig has created expectations of positive change in the sector. This development is seen as consistent with the goal of making the US a "crypto capital." Selig's chairmanship is considered particularly important in terms of regulating crypto assets. Industry experts predict that under his leadership, the CFTC will pursue more innovative policies and adopt a more supportive approach towards crypto markets.
