Hopium in crypto: when hope becomes a drug
What is this even?
Hopiум = hope (hope) + opium (opium). It sounds strange, but the meaning is simple: it's internet slang for describing blind optimism and groundless hopes. Imagine it's a magic pill that crypto degenerates take when they need faith in a miracle.
In the context of crypto
Hopium is when you hold a dead coin and believe that it will still take off. When all the facts are against you, the chart is in red, there is no fundamental value - but you still dream of the moon. Essentially, it's a denial of reality wrapped in positive thinking.
Hopium vs Copium
Don't confuse it with copium. Copium is a survival mechanism, a way to cope with defeat. Hopium, on the other hand, is an unfounded belief that things will get better. They are related, but operate in different situations.
Tone of voice
Usually, it sounds like mockery. When someone writes in the chat “a little hopium for the degenerates” or “here's hopium for all of us when BTC hits 100k” — it refers specifically to this irony. It's like saying: “okay, let's believe in the impossible.”
Moral
Hopium is a natural stress test for your portfolio and emotional health. The line between healthy belief and hopium is thin, but it exists.
