Jin10 data reported on March 29, a survey released on Friday showed that Americans are less likely to view Canada as a close ally like they did two years ago, due to Trump escalating the trade war with Canada and expressing interest in Canada becoming the 51st state of the United States. The AP-NORC Public Affairs Research Center poll found that 45% of respondents consider Canada a close ally, a figure that has dropped by 17 percentage points since September 2023. 30% of respondents view Canada as “friendly” but not a close ally of the U.S., an increase of 5 percentage points since September 2023.
