Vitalik Buterin proposed a new architecture for L2 security and finality.

Gate.io News bot message, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin released the “L2 Security and Finality Roadmap” at the Ethereum Magicians forum. The roadmap proposes a “2 out of 3” architecture based on optimistic proofs, zk-SNARKs, and trusted execution environments, aimed at achieving fast finality for Layer 2.

According to the design proposal, when zk-SNARKs and the Trusted Execution Environment complete verification simultaneously, the transaction immediately reaches final confirmation. If only one party confirms, a 7-day waiting period is required, followed by verification through optimistic proofs. In specific circumstances, the security council has the authority to intervene and update the logic.

Vitalik emphasized that the architecture avoids reliance on a single zk-SNARKs system. He also called for the establishment of a universal zk-SNARKs aggregation layer for the Ethereum ecosystem to achieve cost reduction and system interoperability.
