According to the media: Assad may intend to go to Moscow.

On December 8th, according to the Jerusalem Post, a senior Israeli official said that Syrian President Assad left Damascus on Saturday evening local time and flew to the Khmeimim Air Base operated by Russia in Syria, despite the fact that it has not been confirmed that he has left Syria. A U.S. senior official confirmed that the U.S. has tracked Assad leaving Damascus and added, ‘We believe he plans to fly to Russia.’ Further details about the purpose of this visit are not yet clear.
