In Hong Kong, nearly a hundred investment fraud cases have occurred within a week, with Virtual Money eyewash causing losses of tens of millions for businessmen.
gate News bot message, Hong Kong Wen Wei Po reports that the Hong Kong police announced that they received nearly 100 investment fraud cases in the past week, involving an amount exceeding 90 million Hong Kong dollars.
An 84-year-old male businessman was lured into investing in virtual currency after meeting someone on WeChat who claimed to be the CEO of a data company. He made a total of 14 transfers, resulting in losses close to 10 million HKD. At the same time, a 43-year-old female clerk met a so-called “investment expert” through Telegram and invested in Hong Kong stock index futures on a fake trading platform. Within two weeks, she completed 17 transfers totaling over 2.8 million HKD, losing all her savings and incurring a debt of 1 million HKD.
The Hong Kong police have issued a warning regarding such cases, reminding the public to be cautious of investment scams on social media platforms that claim to have “low risk, high returns.”
