just spent way too much time comparing trading platforms and honestly there's a lot to unpack here. so if you're trying to figure out which technical analysis tools actually work, here's what i found.
most people start with either E*Trade or TradingView depending on what they're looking for. E*Trade is solid if you want everything in one place - charts, research, options, the works. TradingView's free version is legit though, like 30+ million traders use it and you can track way more than just stocks. they've got crypto too which is nice.
if you're serious about day trading, Trade Ideas and TrendSpider are the ones everyone talks about. Trade Ideas has this AI screener that actually works and connects to your broker. TrendSpider automates a lot of the manual work which saves time. both require subscriptions but worth it if you're doing this regularly.
for intermediate traders, Webull and TradeStation offer solid technical analysis tools without killing your wallet. Webull has zero commissions and fractional shares. TradeStation is more for the "i know what i'm doing" crowd - better charting, faster execution.
if you're not ready to commit money yet, TD Ameritrade's thinkorswim platform and TradingView both have paper trading so you can test strategies first. honestly that alone saved me from some dumb trades early on.
the thing is, none of these are perfect. they all have trade-offs between cost, features, and ease of use. depends what you're actually trading and how often. what platform are you using? curious what people actually prefer in practice.
