Techub News reports that Galaxy Digital Research Director Alex Thorn stated that the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Department of the Treasury has officially sanctioned a total of 518 Bitcoin addresses over the years. These addresses are listed on OFAC’s SDN list. These 518 addresses have collectively received 249,814 Bitcoins and sent 239,708 Bitcoins. Currently, these sanctioned addresses still hold a net total of 9,306 Bitcoins, worth approximately $707 million.

Thorn said that OFAC sanctions are just one of the ways the U.S. intercepts illegal assets. The CLARITY Act will further expand the Treasury Department’s powers, and he believes the bill is “the largest expansion of financial surveillance powers since the USA PATRIOT Act.”
