JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED

This young and promising girl, a student of Zenith International Academy in Maiduguri, has tragically lost her life.
She was killed by a stray bullet fired by a Nigerian soldier—an act that occurred while she was safely inside her own home.
The soldier had discharged his weapon during the celebration of a colleague’s wedding in Ngomari. What was meant to be a moment of joy turned into a devastating tragedy.
At the time of the incident, the girl was in her residence within the staff quarters of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH). A bullet from the celebratory gunfire traveled into the area and struck her, taking her life.
There is no provision within military rules that permits the reckless discharge of firearms in public gatherings for celebration or personal excitement.
This incident also reflects a grave lack of professionalism. Even in rare cases where firearms are discharged ceremonially, proper safety measures require that the weapon be directed upward with full awareness of the risks—never in a manner that endangers lives.
We strongly call for accountability and justice for this innocent life lost.
May God, in His mercy, grant her eternal rest and comfort her family in this painful time
