Do you know the story of Erik Finman? He's one of those cases that makes you rethink everything you knew about school and money.
At age 12, this German kid was hanging out with his brother when he saw someone wearing a Bitcoin T-shirt. Just curiosity, but that question changed everything. From that moment, he started studying cryptocurrencies like no one else, and he realized that Bitcoin would become something serious.
His parents gave him $1,000 from his grandmother, and he made his move: bought about 100 bitcoins at $10 each. For three years, he focused only on trading and school, but in 2013, things got serious. When the price hit $1,200 per bitcoin, he sold everything and said goodbye to school. Crazy? Maybe, but his parents agreed with one condition: if he became a millionaire before age 18, no college.
This is where the real story of Erik Finman begins. A teacher told him he would have to give up and look for a job at McDonald's. He wrote a letter to that teacher promising to prove him wrong. In 2014, he founded Botangle, an online education platform where frustrated students like him could find teachers via video call.
At 15, no one took him seriously. An Uber executive told him directly he would never win the bet with his parents. But Erik Finman didn’t stop. He found someone willing to buy Botangle for $100,000 or 300 bitcoins. Back then, Bitcoin had fallen to $200 — a risky choice to pick cryptocurrencies over cash. Yet he chose Bitcoin. He was right.
He kept investing in projects, even collaborating with NASA to launch rockets. And guess what? Before his 18th birthday, Erik Finman had already won the bet. The price had risen above $2,700 per bitcoin, and he was in the top 5 crypto millionaires worldwide. At age 20, he owned over $5 million worth of Bitcoin.
Now, with nearly 10 years of experience in the industry, Erik Finman is convinced that cryptocurrencies are the money of the future. He said in an interview: if you don’t become a millionaire in the next 10 years, it’s your fault. According to him, the opportunities are there; you just need to know how to analyze them.
Today, he’s working on Freedom Phone, a smartphone that promotes free speech and privacy without censorship. Erik Finman’s story is the kind of tale that makes you think: how many smart young people are abandoning the traditional system for something bigger?
