Pentagon Prepares Ground Operations Weeks-Long in Iran, Waiting for Donald Trump's Approval

The Pentagon is reportedly preparing for a ground operation scenario in Iran that could last for weeks or even several months. According to The Washington Post, the plan includes the possible deployment of infantry forces and Special Operations units, though not directed as a full invasion. So far, there is no certainty whether President Donald Trump will approve the military option.
White House officials emphasize that this preparation is part of the Pentagon's duty to provide “maximum options” to the president in facing various scenarios. White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stated that developing the plan does not mean a decision has been made. On the other hand, Secretary of State Marco Rubio previously said that the U.S. military's objectives could be achieved without deploying ground troops, and assessed that the conflict would not last long.
One of the options under discussion includes the potential seizure of Kharg Island, Iran's main oil export hub. The report also mentions that Iran has increased defenses in the area in anticipation of possible U.S. military operations. Amid this escalation, recent surveys show that the majority of Americans oppose deploying ground forces, although many believe such a move could still happen in the near future.
