Twenty-Third Day · Why "Sell Once You've Break-Even" Is the Biggest Cognitive Trap

Good morning, awakeners through the fog.
This is #币圈100天成长计划 Day 23/100.
📉 One of the most common mindsets: "Once I break even, I won't touch it again."
And then?
You actually break even, and you sell.
Three months later, it triples.
You bang your thigh in frustration and chase in at the high.
And then, there’s no more.
This isn’t your fault; it’s a human nature trap.
💎 Today's core cognition: Your brain is hijacked by the "Anchoring Effect"
Anchoring Effect: When making decisions, humans tend to over-rely on the first information they encounter (the "anchor").
In your investment memory, that "anchor" is—your purchase price.
So all your decisions are hijacked by this number:
▫️ Below it, you suffer, waiting to "break even"
▫️ Back to it, you feel relieved, eager to "escape"
▫️ Above it, you regret, thinking "what if"
But the truth of the market is:
Your purchase price is the least important number in the world.
The market doesn’t recognize you, doesn’t care about your costs, and isn’t responsible for your emotions.
✨ Today's mindset upgrade: Switch from "Cost Thinking" to "Value Thinking"
Next time you focus on your position cost, ask yourself these three questions:
1. If I didn’t hold it, at today’s price, would I buy it?
If the answer is "No," then why are you still holding?
Just because "it hasn't returned to my cost price"?
— This is the most expensive sunk cost fallacy.
2. If it falls back to your cost price, would you buy more?
If the answer is "No," then why wait for "break-even"?
You’re not waiting for value to return; you’re waiting for emotional relief.
3. Aside from your cost price, has the fundamentals of this asset changed?
Is its narrative still valid?
Are its data still healthy?
Does its sector still have a future?
— These are the "anchors" you should care about.
🛠 Today's tool: Reset your "mental account"
Next to each transaction record, add a column and write:
"If I only knew about this project today, would I buy at the current price?"
Answer honestly.
If the answer is "Yes," then hold patiently, regardless of the cost.
If the answer is "No," then sell immediately, regardless of profit or loss.
Your past shouldn’t hijack your future.
True freedom isn’t about breaking even,
but about your decisions no longer being hijacked by costs.
👇 What have you missed out on because of "waiting to break even"?
Share your story in the comments, and let’s break this most expensive illusion together.
