Pi Network has set a new deadline for its mainnet node upgrade. The Pi core team now says all nodes must update by February 15, 2026. Operators who miss the deadline may lose connection to the network. Pi coin news shows the upgrade is part of a larger protocol update. It moves the system from version 19.1 to 19.6.

The team had first set a February 12 target. But network congestion and technical issues forced a short extension. The upgrade aims to improve stability and prepare the network for future phases. More updates are already schedule in the coming weeks.

Upgrade Needed to Stay Connected

The Pi core team has warned that this step is mandatory in the mainnet node upgrade. All mainnet nodes must complete the upgrade to remain active. Nodes that fail to update could be disconnect from the network. Operators have also been asked to stagger their upgrades. This helps reduce strain on the system and avoids sudden traffic spikes.

Pi nodes play a key role in the network. They validate transactions and help maintain consensus across the blockchain. Because of that a synchronized upgrade is critical. The team said this is only the first step in a multi-phase process. Each phase will bring new improvements to performance and security.

More Mainnet Node Upgrade Phases Already Scheduled

The February 15 deadline covers the first step of the upgrade cycle. After that, more versions will follow in quick succession. Version 19.9 is expected by February 27. Then, version 20.2 is planned for March 12. Each step will add new features and technical fixes.

These updates aim to make the network more stable. They also support the Pi Network’s goal of gradual decentralization. The team says this process will strengthen the system before wider access. Pi currently claims tens of millions of users. Reports suggest around 60 million people have joined the ecosystem. A growing user base means the network must handle higher activity.

Node Role in the Pi Network Ecosystem

Nodes are a key part of Pi Network’s structure. They run on personal computers instead of mobile phones. Their main task in the mainnet node upgrade is to keep consistency in the ledger and validate transactions. Unlike some blockchains, Pi doesn’t use proof-of-work mining. Instead, it uses a system based on the Stellar Consensus Protocol. Nodes form trusted groups and agree on transaction order. The Pi network includes three levels of participation. Additionally, these include basic desktop app users, regular nodes and supernodes. Specifically, Supernodes handle the main consensus process and must stay online around the clock.

Community Pushes for Timely Upgrades

Pi Community members have started sharing guides and reminders. Many say timely upgrades are important for rewards and long term stability. The Pi core team has also urged patience during the process. Technical issues are expected during large network updates. Pi coin news concludes that the February 15 mainnet node upgrade deadline stands as the next key milestone. Furthermore, Node operators who complete the upgrade on time will remain connected as the network moves into its next phase.

Pi Network price hits a new 7-week low as a wave of 60 million token unlocks comes in

Pi Network's native token PI fell to $0.165 in April, hitting a 7-week low and leaving market sentiment weak. The unlock peak will release more than 60 million PI, adding downward pressure. Despite the core team recently publishing technical updates, it failed to improve market confidence and instead drew community criticism due to KYC access issues and the ongoing slide in price. Increased future supply could further drive prices lower.
