Regulatory authorities are increasingly calling for stricter enforcement measures against AI-generated deepfakes on social media platforms. The push for expanded regulatory powers reflects growing concerns about synthetic media misuse and the potential for coordinated disinformation campaigns. With deepfake technology becoming more accessible, the debate centers on whether platform governance alone is sufficient or if formal regulatory intervention—including the ability to impose content bans and compliance penalties—is necessary to protect users and maintain platform integrity. This regulatory pressure highlights the broader challenge facing Web3 and decentralized systems: balancing innovation with accountability and public trust.

Deepfakes, to put it simply, are everyone fighting for the right to speak. Platforms want to manage themselves well, but regulation also needs to step in. The more regulation there is, the more risks arise. How can decentralization work then? Instead of competing over these issues, it's better to think about how to fundamentally solve the problem. It feels like everyone is just treating the symptoms, not the root cause.

Deepfake is basically about regulators wanting to seize control; innovation is being stifled.
