Introduction

To invest in US stocks, you need to understand the trading hours and holidays of the US regular market accurately. The US operates daylight saving time, and due to the time difference with Korea, it is not in the same time zone. Misunderstanding this could lead to missed trading opportunities.

This guide summarizes the trading hours, holidays in 2025, and conversion times to Korea Standard Time in a table for the major US stock exchanges. Additionally, the trading hours of major global stock markets are provided for your reference in developing a global investment strategy.

Understanding the 3 Major US Stock Exchanges

The US regular market consists of three major exchanges.

New York Stock Exchange(NYSE)

Founded in 1792, this historic exchange is the largest in the world by market capitalization. About 2,400 companies are listed, with a total market cap of approximately $23 trillion. Traditional large companies such as Berkshire Hathaway, Johnson & Johnson, Visa, and Walmart are mainly traded here.

NASDAQ Stock Market(NASDAQ)

Established in 1971, it initially operated as an over-the-counter market but quickly grew to gain official exchange status. It ranks second in the world by market cap and is known as a technology-focused exchange. Major listed companies include Apple, Microsoft, and Nvidia.

American Stock Exchange(AMEX)

One of the three major US exchanges, primarily listing mid-sized and small companies. While the NYSE focuses on large corporations, this is the trading hub for small and medium-sized enterprises.
