I recently had coffee with an old friend who is a millionaire investor and earns millions each year.

Every five minutes, he checks his phone to see if he has new notifications. He can barely hold a conversation without getting distracted.

At one point, he starts writing a message to himself with the subject "Test."

I ask him what he's doing. He says it's strange that he hasn't received any notifications in so long, so he wants to make sure his phone is still working.

This shows that some people don't just work for money, but are enslaved by it. No matter how much they earn, they are not owners of their lives.

The worst part is that this friend has allowed his lifestyle to take over him. He spends most of what he earns on expensive rent, watches, wine, and everything else. He's not even close to being able to break out of the monotony, and he loves it.
