Bitcoin Core development activity shows significant growth, reversing years of decline

Deep Tide TechFlow News, on January 5th, according to The Block, Bitcoin Core development activity significantly increased in 2025, reversing a multi-year downward trend. Annual data released by Casa Chief Security Officer Jameson Lopp shows that Bitcoin Core mailing list traffic grew by 60% year-over-year, with 135 independent code contributors involved in development, and approximately 285,000 lines of code changed.

This growth trend reversed the continuous decline since 2018, when the number of contributors peaked at around 193. In 2025, Bitcoin Core also completed its first public third-party security audit, conducted by Quarkslab and funded by the non-profit organization Brink, with no serious or high-risk vulnerabilities found.
