  • Base App posts sync across Zora and other apps using shared protocols, avoiding duplicates.
  • 某合规平台 expands beyond its exchange role as Base links social content, payments, and onchain.

Coinbase is positioning its Base App as the main publishing layer for the on-chain creator economy. The move signals a shift toward protocol-based ownership of content, audiences, and monetization across Web3 platforms.

The strategy became clear after a public exchange between a user and Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong. The discussion focused on posting content across Base App and Zora without creating duplicates.

Armstrong said creators should post directly on the Base App. He explained that content automatically appears on Zora and other apps using the same decentralized protocol. He added that this approach avoids duplication because the apps share infrastructure.

You can post wherever you want but my suggestion would be to just post on Base app. It will automatically appear on Zora and others as well, since it’s using the same decentralized protocol. And you won’t get duplicates.

Base is a client that helps you use lots of decentralized…

He described Base as a client that connects users to multiple decentralized protocols. The comment framed Base as an access layer rather than a closed platform.

Base App as a Shared Publishing Layer

Based on the Base Chain, the Base App functions as a consumer-facing super app. Base Chain is an Ethereum Layer 2 network that combines social posting, payments, trading, and decentralized applications in one interface, developed by Coinbase.

Coinbase designed the app to hide technical complexity from users. Everyday actions like posting, chatting, tipping, and trading happen directly on-chain. The app removes the need to switch between multiple services.

Zora serves as the publishing layer inside the Base App. Posts, pictures, and memes can be minted by users as on-chain tokens. Each post becomes a tradable asset tied to the creator’s identity. The app also integrates the Farcaster protocol. Farcaster manages social identity across decentralized applications. This allows creators to keep one identity across different platforms.

In July 2025, Coinbase rebranded its main wallet as the Base App. The change signaled a move beyond asset storage toward content and interaction. Coinbase presented the app as a gateway to the on-chain economy.

Creators can tokenize individual posts directly inside their feeds. They can earn royalties, tips, and secondary market fees from their content. The system connects creation and monetization without intermediaries.

Coinbase also introduced MiniKit during the rebrand. MiniKit is a software kit that lets developers publish mini-apps inside the Base App. These apps include games, prediction tools, and social utilities.

To handle increased activity, Coinbase upgraded the Base Chain. The Flashblocks update reduced transaction times to 200 milliseconds. Faster confirmations support real-time posting and interaction.

Infrastructure Over Platforms

The Base App also introduced Base Pay and Base Account. Base Pay enables fast USDC payments for merchants, including Shopify sellers. It supports near-instant checkout experiences.

Base Account acts as a universal on-chain identity. The account follows users across decentralized applications. It reduces friction when moving between services.

By early 2025, the Base network reached over two million daily active users. Coinbase aims to scale that number to 25 million users by next year. The plan combines Web3 ownership with Web2 usability.

The automatic syncing between Base App and Zora highlights a broader shift. Content now lives on shared protocols rather than isolated platforms. Distribution happens across apps without duplication.

Creator platforms increasingly compete as interfaces, not owners. They build user experiences on top of the same content layer. Ownership remains with creators through open protocols.

Coinbase’s strategy is similar to how blockchains evolved into financial settlement layers. The Base App now aims to serve a similar role for media and social content. Beyond exchange services, the company continues to develop the core Web3 infrastructure.

ngl base becoming the default publishing layer sounds nice on paper, but has anyone actually checked the validator distribution metrics here? feels like we're just consolidating around coinbase infrastructure again lol

This move in the base was quite clever, directly choking the creator's throat.

Coming back to cut our traffic again? Base App as the publishing layer—sounds good, but isn't it just trying to lock creators into its own ecosystem? I'll just wait and see if there's an airdrop; if not, I'll pass.
