On December 12, according to CEX development lead erik.eth, the team announced the launch of x402 V2 after millions of x402 payments. The new version aims to promote the development of internet-native payments with greater flexibility and more powerful features. The new version standardizes network and asset formats so that servers can accept stablecoins, and even fiat currency, over various networks using the same x402 interface — without needing to write custom logic for each network. Additionally, V2 introduces an extended concept in the x402 standard. Extensions allow additional optional data to be transmitted in a structured way between clients, servers, and coordinators. This opens the door to authentication, multiple discovery mechanisms, and more functionalities. The extension feature enables developers to extend x402 without forking from the main specification.
