U.S. President Donald Trump has harshly criticized prominent Bitcoin(BTC) skeptic and gold advocate Peter Schiff, as well as conservative media outlets, via Truth Social. In response, Peter Schiff immediately hit back, proposing to Trump, “Let’s have an open debate about the U.S. economy.”

Trump: “Peter Schiff is a Loser… Prices Are Going Down”

In an early Saturday morning post, Trump expressed strong displeasure at a flagship conservative media program’s decision to invite Peter Schiff.

Trump wrote, “Why on earth is this program featuring a ‘Trump hater’ and loser(Loser) stockbroker like Peter Schiff?” adding, “He’s already been proven wrong.”

He continued, “Either the network made a mistake or it’s lost its way,” adding, “Schiff claims prices are rising, but in reality, prices have dropped significantly since the Biden administration, with gas prices falling to as low as $1.99 in some states.” Trump dismissed the current “inflation crisis” as a Democratic ploy and emphasized the effectiveness of his own policies.

Peter Schiff: “If I’m Wrong, Prove It… I Propose a Public Debate”

A few hours after Trump’s attack, Peter Schiff responded directly on social media.

Schiff said, “President Trump called me an idiot and a loser,” adding, “He claims prices are going down, but I still believe they’re rising. If I’m so wrong, I propose a debate with Trump himself or a representative of his choosing on the U.S. economy and policy effectiveness.”

He went on to criticize and mock Trump’s social media presence.

Tensions With Conservative Media

This war of words highlights subtle tensions between Trump and the conservative media outlets that have long supported him. The program in question was a core platform that helped secure Trump’s 2016 election by portraying him as a populist and champion of the working class. However, Trump has recently become sensitive to conservative media booking guests critical of him.

The confrontation between Trump, who claims “prices are falling,” and Peter Schiff, who warns of “continued inflation,” is likely to spark further debate over future economic policy.

It feels more like a fight than a discussion.
