Hassett rebuts Moody's downgrade of the U.S. rating, stating that U.S. bonds are "the safest investment."

On May 19, Hasset, director of the U.S. National Economic Council, criticized Moody’s decision to downgrade the U.S. credit rating, calling the move an outdated view and saying the Trump administration is committed to reducing federal spending. “There is no doubt that U.S. Treasuries are the safest investment on the planet,” Hassett said. There’s no other country [bonds] that I’m more willing to hold than U.S. Treasuries, so Moody’s can do whatever he wants." “It’s a retrospective approach that is punishing our Biden administration for reckless spending,” Hassett added. Hassett also said: “We are cutting spending, we are deregulation. We have growth on the supply side, so we have every reason to believe that we will have the best economy in the world. If you have the best economy in the world, you will also have the best debt in the world. That’s what I think of it.” ( gold ten )
