[Ministry of Foreign Affairs: China’s countermeasures against U.S. fentanyl are still effective] Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian stated that during the economic and trade talks between China and the U.S. in Geneva, multiple positive Consensus were reached, agreeing to significantly drop the bilateral tariff levels. The U.S. side promised to eliminate 91% of tariffs and suspend the implementation of 24% reciprocal tariffs, while correspondingly, China also eliminated 91% of countermeasures tariffs and suspended the implementation of 24% countermeasures tariffs, with both sides retaining 10% of their tariffs. The U.S. unreasonably imposed two rounds of tariffs on China under the pretext of fentanyl, and China took countermeasures, including tariff and non-tariff measures, immediately to firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests; these countermeasures are still effective.
