Russia has started selling BTC assets seized in the Infraud case, with the first liquidation amounting to about 10 million dollars.
Shenzhen TechFlow News, on January 10th, according to Cryptonews, the Russian Ministry of Finance has started to dispose of the BTC assets confiscated in the Infraud Hacker organization investigation case. According to the Russian state news agency TASS, the first batch will liquidate approximately $10 million worth of BTC assets from former investigator Marat Tambiev.
Tambiev was sentenced to 16 years in prison in 2023 for accepting bribes from the Hacker organization, involving a total of 1032.1 BTC. However, as Tambiev stored the BTC in a dispersed manner, law enforcement agencies need to apply for separate court rulings for different wallets. Currently, the first batch of liquidated assets is stored in a Ledger Nano X hardware wallet. In addition, the prosecution also plans to liquidate his real estate in the Moscow region and a Honda motorcycle.
It is worth noting that Tambiev received BTC bribes multiple times during the period of 2020-2022, assisting Hacker organization in transferring approximately 13.7 billion rubles (about 137 million USD) worth of encrypted assets. There are two other individuals involved in the case, one of whom has been sentenced to 9 years in prison, while the other is still at large.
