The co-founders of Samourai Wallet have now pleaded guilty to charges from the United States.
The two co-founders of the Samourai wallet – Keonne Rodriguez and William Lonergan Hill – have just pleaded guilty in federal court in New York, after previously denying the charges in April 2024. Both are accused of operating an illegal cryptocurrency mixing service, processing over 2 billion USD in illegal transactions, including money from dark markets like Silk Road. Rodriguez and Hill face up to 25 years in prison for money laundering and running an unlicensed money transfer business. The guilty plea comes after they failed to have the case dismissed, despite citing the Justice Department's position on unintentional violations related to the mixing protocol. This development comes as Roman Storm – co-founder of Tornado Cash – is also on trial with similar charges, potentially facing up to 45 years in prison.
