A reporter with China Central Television (CCTV) learned on the 6th local time that IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said that the war in the Middle East will lead to higher inflation and a slowdown in global economic growth.

Georgieva said that if there were no war, expectations for economic growth might be adjusted upward slightly. But now, all indications show that prices are rising and economic growth is slowing. If the war continues, the impact on inflation and economic growth will be greater. She said the IMF has received requests from some countries for financing assistance, and the organization can expand certain existing loan programs to meet those countries’ needs.

The IMF plans to release new World Economic Outlook projections next week. (CCTV reporter Zhao Miao)
