Recently, I’ve been testing SMS verification for various foreign websites, and dealing with the SMS verification platforms has been quite a hassle. I tried several, some of which never received the verification code, others that took half a day to respond, wasting a lot of time and money. Later, I summarized some experience and found a few decent SMS verification platforms to share with everyone, hoping to help you avoid some pitfalls.
Basically, SMS verification is using virtual phone numbers to receive SMS codes. You don’t need to buy a new SIM card; just register on the platform, select a country code, enter it into the website you want to verify, and the code will appear on the platform page. This method protects your privacy and makes it easy to test various accounts. Most platforms charge per use, with options for monthly plans or bulk numbers.
Among the platforms I’ve tested, SMS-Activate and 5SIM perform the most stable, with codes arriving within about 10 seconds most of the time, and they support many countries. If you mainly use it domestically, Super Cloud SMS and XiaoNiao SMS are also good choices. US numbers typically take 10-30 seconds, while domestic numbers are faster, around 5-20 seconds. Getsmscode is inexpensive and suitable for light users, but less popular platforms might be a bit slower.
When using SMS verification platforms, watch out for a few pitfalls: some numbers are shared, which can lead to registration issues; codes may be delayed, especially for less common countries; always choose reputable platforms—don’t just go for the cheapest options. My advice is, if you’re just testing APIs, any platform that supports API access is enough; but if you need stable registration for a specific website, it’s best to prepare multiple numbers so you can switch quickly if one becomes invalid. Many platforms have a one-click number switch feature, which is really useful.
Overall, SMS verification platforms are meant for temporary use and aren’t suitable as long-term primary numbers. Choosing the right platform and having backup numbers ready will help you avoid getting stuck.
