Recently, I’ve been doing account testing, which often requires temporary phone numbers to receive verification codes. I’ve encountered quite a few pitfalls before—some platforms simply don’t receive texts, others have delays of half a day. After some exploration, I found a few reliable SMS verification platforms to share.

Basically, SMS verification is using virtual numbers to receive SMS codes, either pay-per-use or monthly subscription. The ones I frequently use include SMS-Activate (codes arrive in about 10 seconds, covers many countries), Super Cloud SMS (US numbers in 10-30 seconds, faster for domestic numbers), 5SIM (clean interface, clear API documentation), Bird SMS (domestic apps in 5-15 seconds, good value), and Getsmscode (cheap, suitable for light use).

Here are some tips for using SMS verification platforms. Shared numbers are often already registered, and less popular apps may have delays. It’s recommended to prepare several numbers to avoid getting blocked. Some platforms support one-click number switching, which is very useful. If you’re just testing APIs, you can choose any that support API access, but for stable registration on overseas sites, it’s best to top up multiple numbers so you can switch quickly if one becomes invalid.

Also, different platforms have varying attitudes toward virtual numbers. Some accept them, while others consider them risky. Based on my experience, SMS-Activate and 5SIM offer the most stable performance, with low delays and wide coverage. In summary, SMS verification platforms are emergency tools—great for privacy and testing—but shouldn’t be used as long-term main numbers, as security cannot be guaranteed.
