Russian Foreign Minister: The U.S. should not talk about reopening the Strait of Hormuz but should call for a ceasefire

People’s Finance and News, April 3—Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov said at a joint press conference after meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Abdel Atti on April 3 that efforts must be made to secure a ceasefire in the Persian Gulf region and initiate negotiations, adding that some people are trying to undermine the prospects for talks on the Iran issue. Lavrov emphasized that the United States should not talk idly about unlocking the Strait of Hormuz, but should stop military actions against Iran. The Egyptian foreign minister said that Egypt and Russia will coordinate to prevent the Persian Gulf conflict from expanding, and that both sides have a shared interest in de-escalating the situation.
