People’s Finance News, April 4—On April 3, the African Union Commission issued a statement expressing welcome for the five-point initiative proposed by China and Pakistan, aimed at restoring peace and stability in the Gulf and the Middle East. In the statement, AU Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat said the initiative makes a timely and constructive contribution to easing regional tensions and promoting a political and diplomatic process. The initiative emphasizes an immediate cessation of hostilities, the protection of civilians, adherence to international humanitarian law, and safeguarding maritime security, reflecting the key elements needed to manage the current crisis. Moussa Faki Mahamat also reiterated his “deep concern” about the continued escalation of the situation in the Gulf and the Middle East. He believes that the impact of the conflict has already spread globally, including to energy supply chains, food systems, and economic stability—especially for Africa, since Africa is already a continent facing multiple challenges. Moussa Faki Mahamat called on all parties to the conflict to remain restrained, ease the situation as soon as possible, and continue engagement, stressing that all sides must act fully in accordance with the UN Charter and international law in order to maintain international peace and security.
