People’s Finance News, April 1—Local time April 1, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zakharova, at a routine press conference, responded to questions raised by a reporter from CCTV about Japan’s significant departure from post-war obligations, including the deployment of military forces in Northeast Asia. Zakharova said that Japan’s statements and actions further confirm that Japan is accelerating its departure from the pacifist principles enshrined in its constitution. That constitution had legally clarified Japan’s renunciation of the right to wage war, its renunciation of possessing armed forces, the prohibition on deploying missile systems on the home territory, and the expansion of its arsenal of new offensive weapons. However, the steps Japan is taking at present are consistent with the dangerous path of accelerating militarization. She noted that if Japan’s actions also include denying history and distorting history, the consequences would be unthinkable. The Russian side has previously, through diplomatic channels and in public settings, repeatedly pointed out that this policy by Japan has had negative effects on regional stability and security, including Russian interests. The Russian side is closely monitoring these developments and is giving full consideration to them first when formulating the necessary countermeasures to ensure national defensive capabilities.
