I took a look at who actually owns the most Bitcoins—and the list is quite interesting. At the top is, of course, Satoshi Nakamoto with about 1.1 million BTC, but those have never been moved since the beginning. Wild speculation exists about who they really are.
Then come the major players: One of the world's largest crypto exchanges holds over 550,000 BTC, making it the leading institutional holder. BlackRock, the asset management giant from the USA, has secured over 305,000 BTC—showing how seriously the traditional financial world is now taking Bitcoin. A leading US crypto exchange holds nearly 300,000 BTC for its users.
Who else owns the most Bitcoins? Grayscale with 263,000 BTC, MicroStrategy with 226,500 BTC under Michael Saylor, the US government with 213,000 BTC (mainly from seizures), China with about 190,000 BTC, Fidelity with 181,000 BTC, and Block.one with 164,000 BTC.
The interesting thing is: The biggest Bitcoin owners are not individual persons but institutions and exchanges. This shows how much the market has professionalized. Satoshi remains the largest holder, but whether the coins will ever be moved is the million-dollar question.
