On March 25, the Chinese Academy of Engineering released “2025 Global Engineering Frontiers” at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Zhongguancun Forum Annual Conference. This achievement release was the first time “Global Engineering Frontiers” appeared at the Zhongguancun Forum Annual Conference. In nine fields, it selected 94 engineering research frontiers and 95 engineering development frontiers, providing key perspectives for insight into the development of global engineering science and technology. The report shows that in 2025, global engineering frontiers overall presented four distinct trends: first, artificial intelligence is helping engineering paradigms move toward intergenerational leapfrogging; second, scenario-driven approaches are accelerating the transformation of engineering frontiers into new quality productive forces; third, the frontiers of engineering innovation continue to break through the boundaries of human cognition; and fourth, green and low-carbon initiatives are driving a deep, end-to-end reconfiguration of the entire engineering system. Since 2017, the Chinese Academy of Engineering has organized academicians and experts every year to carry out research on “Global Engineering Frontiers.” Through data mining, expert interaction, and judgment-based selection, it has obtained about 90 engineering research frontiers and about 90 engineering development frontiers, and has released Chinese- and English-language research reports to the world, drawing widespread attention from all sectors at home and abroad.
