It takes a year for the UAE's largest aluminum plant in the world to fully resume production.
United Arab Emirates Global Aluminium says its Al Taweelah smelter in the UAE was attacked by Iran last month, and fully restoring original aluminum production may take up to a year. The plant is one of the world’s largest aluminum smelters; based on capacity calculated by “a single site,” it ranks second globally.
The company said that in order to restore smelter operations, the damaged infrastructure must be repaired. Initial signs indicate that full production could take 12 months to resume.
After the Al Taweelah smelter was attacked in the Abu Dhabi Khalifa Economic Zone on March 28, it was damaged, all personnel were evacuated, and it has entered an emergency shutdown.
