Major IoT chip manufacturer partners with Bosch!
Recently, Espressif (688018.SH) and Bosch Sensortec jointly released a brand-new magnetic sensing interaction solution. The solution uses an Espressif SoC together with Bosch high-precision three-axis magnetic sensor BMM350, enabling accessory recognition and position detection by sensing changes in the magnetic field, and provides a new option for non-contact interaction for AI toys and smart hardware.
The solution adopts the BMM350 sensor using TMR technology, which features high precision, low noise, and a field-shock stabilization recovery function. It can sense changes in the magnetic field in real time and accurately identify 10 types of magnetic accessories. Its effective sensing distance reaches 150mm, and it also supports position sensing, sliding, and gesture interactions. The sensor package is only 1.28×1.28mm; it requires no cutouts or antennae, can be fully embedded, and balances the advantages of a small form factor and low cost.
Compared with solutions such as vision and NFC, this solution has extremely simple hardware and controllable costs. It can significantly reduce the complexity of interaction design for smart devices and meet the needs of large-scale mass production. Espressif also provides complete hardware/software support and an algorithm demo to help developers integrate quickly.
When an accessory with a built-in permanent magnet approaches the device, the system determines the accessory’s status and position by detecting changes in the magnetic field. Permanent magnets of different sizes or placed in different positions can form differentiated magnetic-field features. The Espressif SoC analyzes and matches the collected data to achieve recognition of up to ten types of accessories, and also supports gesture interactions such as sliding.
This collaboration combines Espressif IoT chips and Bosch sensing technology to provide a more lightweight and highly reliable solution for AIoT interaction scenarios, and will drive interaction innovation in areas such as AI toys and smart home applications.
