DeepSeek’s upcoming AI model V4 will run on chips designed by Huawei Technologies, according to a report by The Information published on Friday.

DeepSeek’s anticipated V4 will run on Huawei chips

Big win for Huawei. Alibaba, ByteDance, Tencent, and other major Chinese tech firms are gathering hundreds of thousands of Huawei chips ahead of DeepSeek’s V4 launch.

The report cited five people with direct knowledge of the matter.

In preparation for V4’s launch, Chinese tech giants Alibaba, ByteDance, and Tencent have placed bulk orders for Huawei’s upcoming chip. The orders total hundreds of thousands of units.

The model is expected to launch within the next few weeks.

DeepSeek, the Hangzhou-based AI startup, has spent months working with Huawei and Chinese chip designer Cambricon Technologies. The goal was to rewrite and test parts of V4’s core code so it runs on Chinese-made hardware.

That collaboration was cited by two people close to the company.

DeepSeek Skips U.S. Chipmakers for V4

DeepSeek gave early access to domestic chip suppliers, including Huawei, ahead of the V4 launch. It did not grant the same access to U.S. chipmakers, breaking from standard industry practice before a major model update.

Reuters had reported this earlier in the year.

The company is also building two additional V4 variants. Each one is designed for different capabilities and built to run on Chinese-made chips.

Neither DeepSeek nor Huawei responded to Reuters’ requests for comment, which were sent outside normal office hours.

What DeepSeek’s Previous Models Did to Markets

DeepSeek’s earlier models, V3 and R1, caused a sharp selloff in global tech stocks when they launched. Investors began questioning whether U.S. AI companies needed to spend billions on computing infrastructure.

That reaction put DeepSeek’s next model, V4, under intense global scrutiny.

The V4 model has not yet been released. No official launch date has been confirmed by DeepSeek.

Cambricon Technologies shares rose 2.67% on the news. Alibaba shares fell 1.36% in U.S. trading and 1.49% in Hong Kong.
