Abstract generation in progress

Just after the news broke that the web series 《Moon Scale Ornate Chronicle》 starring Ju Jingyi was officially scheduled, the female lead ran into trouble. A netizen discovered that Sibah filed a real-name complaint against Ju Jingyi for tax evasion and underreporting, and provided evidence showing a huge discrepancy between the amounts of income she reported and her actual income. At present, the Shanghai tax authorities have accepted the case.

The complaint materials show that for the full year of 2024, Ju Jingyi reported income of about 11 million yuan, of which nearly 5 million yuan came from Sibah Media, and the remaining about 6 million yuan came from other channels. The complainant listed Ju Jingyi’s income from June to December 2024, saying that Ju Jingyi participated in about 20 events such as film and television and business activities, estimating that her income was no less than 50 million yuan, with an underreporting rate of nearly 88%.

After compiling the list of Ju Jingyi’s income that the complainant said was not reported truthfully, what many netizens are most interested in are her magazine earnings and pay for the web series. The list shows that for 《Moon Scale Ornate Chronicle》 Ju Jingyi’s series fee was 16 million yuan, her magazine income was 11 million yuan, a large gala could reach a million per event, an ordinary gala event averaged between 300,000 and 500,000, and a promotional event was about 300,000 per event.

Seeing that Ju Jingyi makes 11 million from a single magazine, many netizens raised doubts, believing that the evidence is not rigorous, and that they dug up the actual sales figure of that magazine was 9 million yuan.

Moreover, it’s impossible for the magazine organizer to not split profits, for Ju Jingyi to take everything herself—so netizens questioned whether Sibah exaggerated the amount of actual income. However, a large number of netizens, based on this income situation, discovered a harsh reality: making money from magazine shoots is even more profitable than acting. They can’t help wondering whether there’s anything shady in the middle.

Ju Jingyi’s reported annual income for 2024 has been the subject of a complaint, and some fans have questioned whether the company should bear responsibility. However, when you dig deeper into the contract between Ju Jingyi and Sibah, it turns out that the tax evasion and underreporting part reported by Sibah occurred in the second half of 2024. By then, Ju Jingyi had already left Sibah and set up a studio. The company had already distanced itself.

Many netizens, upon seeing that Ju Jingyi was accused of tax evasion, all expressed support for a strict investigation, condemning that it’s so easy for celebrities to rake in money but still not to honestly pay taxes. With a level like Ju Jingyi having 50 million within half a year, it shows there are still many “escaped fish.”

Although Ju Jingyi’s tax issue topped the trending searches, neither Ju Jingyi nor the drama production side panicked. They still went ahead and officially announced the scheduling of the new series, showing zero concern about the tax issue. In the comment section, fans are still actively working to control comments.

The conflict between Sibah and Ju Jingyi isn’t something that started just yesterday. The bigger commotion before was that Sibah exposed Ju Jingyi’s treatment and income as an artist. There were not only customized dramas, but also a paid income of more than 100 million yuan. There was a fixed salary of 250,000 yuan per month, and even daily expenses like personal travel were reimbursed by the company—leading to significant controversy. What’s more, Sibah repeatedly advised the outside world not to collaborate with Ju Jingyi; the two sides were in a legal dispute, and Ju Jingyi’s collaborators didn’t pay any attention.

Now that Sibah has filed a tax complaint, referencing the timeline of when Xu Xiaoqing filed a real-name complaint, it took three months for investigation before the results came out. After the results were released, the tax authority made a public notice to clarify that she is innocent. As for what Ju Jingyi’s actual tax situation is, it will have to wait for the tax department’s announcement. But based on the total income of 50 million yuan previously exposed by Ju Jingyi, having 50 million in just half a year still doesn’t seem normal.

After being accused, Ju Jingyi didn’t rush to clarify. Instead, she only focused on promoting her new series. It’s unclear whether she had confidence in her heart or whether she believed Sibah’s evidence wasn’t strong enough to be convincing. Either way, a de facto break-up dispute escalated to this level—this counts as a case where both sides were hurt. Of course, if there are illegal acts, then it must be investigated thoroughly.
