** [Caixin Network]** On March 31, the China Association of Actuaries and the China Banking and Insurance Information Technology Management Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “China BAIIT”) released information on claims payments related to China’s new energy vehicle insurance for 2025.
The data show that in 2025, China’s insurance industry underwrote 43.58 million new energy vehicles (of which 41.81 million were passenger vehicles and 1.77 million were trucks), an increase of 12.48 million year over year, representing growth of 40.1%. The Ministry of Public Security had previously disclosed that by the end of 2025, the national stock of new energy vehicles reached 43.97 million, accounting for 12.01% of the total number of vehicles.
In 2025, premium income from new energy vehicle insurance reached CNY 190 billion, up 35% year over year, providing an aggregate risk protection amount of CNY 159 trillion. Based on this, the per-vehicle average premium for new energy vehicle insurance in 2025 was CNY 4,360, down by about CNY 180 from the previous year.
