Just caught some interesting drilling updates from the Séguéla Mine in Côte d'Ivoire. Fortuna Mining has been hitting some pretty impressive gold intercepts at their Sunbird deposit, and the mineralization story just keeps getting better.
The latest results are catching attention for a reason. One hole returned 6.1 g/t Au over 18.9 meters true width from 564 meters depth, which is substantial. But what's really notable is the consistency across multiple drill holes. You've got SGRD2473 showing 15.4 g/t Au over 4.2 meters, including a higher-grade shoot of 26.2 g/t Au. SGRD2475 came back with 4.1 g/t Au over 13.3 meters. SGRD2491 delivered 5.2 g/t Au over 8.4 meters with some impressive internal grades hitting 29.6 g/t Au.
What stands out is they're not just hitting narrow high-grade shoots anymore. The 18.9-meter intercept at 6.1 g/t Au is genuinely wide for this type of mineralization. That's the kind of result that can move the needle on resource estimates. They've got five drill rigs working the deposit right now, and based on these results, they're clearly targeting depth extensions and the connection between the upper and lower mineralized shoots.
The drilling has successfully extended mineralization roughly 400 meters beyond their existing resource envelope. One hole at 686 meters depth hit 13.0 g/t Au over 4.2 meters, which shows the lower shoot is still open and growing. They completed 22 additional holes totaling 9,816 meters after the June 30, 2025 resource estimate cutoff, so these results aren't even captured in their current reserves yet.
Paul Weedon, their exploration VP, mentioned that high-grade mineralization remains wide open at depth. The company expects drilling to continue through 2026, which suggests they're pretty confident about what they're seeing. This kind of consistent, wide intercepts at depth typically signals resource growth potential. The deposit is open along strike too, so there's more exploration runway ahead.
All the sampling and assay work follows standard procedures with proper QA/QC protocols. The gold analysis was done at established labs using fire assay methods, which is solid for this type of work. When you're looking at these kinds of numbers and drilling patterns, this is the kind of exploration story that deserves attention from anyone tracking gold projects in West Africa.
