Israeli officials stated that the likelihood of an agreement between the United States and Iran is “extremely low.” It is reported that the divisions stem not only from U.S. demands—including restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program, ballistic missiles, and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz—but also from Iran’s requests. Two sources involved in the mediation said, “Currently, Iran insists on requiring compensation from the U.S. and guarantees that no further actions will be taken against Iran in any agreement.” On February 28, the U.S. and Israel launched a massive attack on Iran, resulting in the death of Iran’s then Supreme Leader Khamenei. Subsequently, Iran retaliated against U.S. military bases in the Middle East and Israeli targets. On March 23, U.S. President Trump stated that the U.S. is in discussions with Iran to determine if a broader agreement can be reached. Trump said, “This time, Iran is serious; they want to reach a reconciliation. The U.S. has cleared all targets in Iran that needed to be cleared, including its leadership.” (CCTV News)
