Microsoft 3D Viewer UWP app announces support ending on June 30, but it can continue to be used for free.
IT Home reported on February 27 that, according to feedback from IT Home colleagues, Microsoft has announced that support for the 3D Viewer UWP app will end on June 30, 2026. After that date, the app will no longer receive security updates or bug fixes.
Microsoft stated that users can continue to use the application for free, and as an alternative, the company recommends visiting Babylon.js Sandbox, a well-maintained open-source online 3D viewer.
3D Viewer is an official 3D viewer launched by Microsoft, which can be used to view 3D models and animations. 3D Viewer allows users to view 3D models with lighting controls, examine model data, and visualize different texture patterns.
IT Home learned from the Microsoft Store that 3D Viewer was first launched in 2016 and supports Windows 10 version 16299.0 or higher, with the last update occurring on February 12.
