Caixin News March 25 — COSCO Shipping Container Lines (hereinafter referred to as COSCO Shipping) has issued a service notice: starting today, new booking services (general containers) from the Far East to the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, and Iraq, these Middle Eastern Gulf countries, have been resumed.

Previously, following the outbreak of the conflict involving the U.S., Israel, and Iran, and Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, COSCO Shipping announced on March 4, 2026, that it would suspend shipments to these countries worldwide.

Resuming shipments does not mean COSCO Shipping’s container ships can pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Several COSCO Shipping personnel told Caixin that ships will not temporarily cross the strait. Instead, similar to the previous CMA CGM plan, containers will first be shipped by sea to the port of Sur in Oman on the east side of the strait; then to ports such as Jebel Ali and Fujairah in the UAE, and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, followed by land transfer and transshipment to these countries.
