Mars Finance News, March 24 — According to The New York Times, U.S. Department of Defense officials stated that senior military officers are considering deploying an operational battalion of the 82nd Airborne Division and some headquarters staff of the division to support U.S. military operations in Iran. The officials said these military actions are carefully planned and noted that the Department of Defense or U.S. Central Command has not issued any orders yet. The combat unit will come from the “Rapid Response Force” of the 82nd Airborne Division, a battalion of about 3,000 soldiers capable of deploying anywhere in the world within 18 hours. This unit could be used to seize Iran’s main oil export hub, Khark Island. Another possibility under consideration is that, if Trump authorizes the U.S. military to seize the island, approximately 2,500 Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit currently en route to the region could be mobilized.
