Qualcomm and NEURA Reach Long-term Partnership to Advance Next-Generation Robots and Physical AI
Chip giant Qualcomm announces a strategic long-term partnership with German robotics company NEURA Robotics. The two will jointly develop next-generation robot platforms and “Physical AI” technology to accelerate large-scale real-world applications of robots.
This collaboration is seen as a significant step toward integrating AI and robotics industries.
Building the Robot “Brain + Nervous System”
According to the partnership details, they will co-develop a reference architecture for robots called “Brain + Nervous System.”
In simple terms:
Brain: Responsible for AI perception, reasoning, and planning
Nervous System: Handles real-time control of robot movements and actions
Qualcomm will provide its Dragonwing IQ10 series processors, designed specifically for robots, responsible for edge AI computing, connectivity, and real-time control.
NEURA Robotics will supply a complete hardware platform and embodied intelligence software system.
Both parties aim to deeply integrate hardware and software to enable robots to make real-time decisions and safely collaborate with humans in complex environments.
From Cloud to Local AI for Robots
In traditional AI architectures, much of the computing relies on the cloud.
But robots are different; they must make decisions within milliseconds, such as:
Obstacle avoidance
Object grabbing
Human collaboration
Therefore, Qualcomm hopes to deploy more AI capabilities directly on local robot chips to achieve low latency, stable, and secure intelligent control.
Building a Physical AI Development Ecosystem
Beyond hardware collaboration, both parties plan to establish a robot development ecosystem.
NEURA’s Neuraverse platform will serve as the core system for:
Robot simulation training
AI model training
Robot swarm management
Lifecycle updates
Developers will be able to create applications on the same platform and deploy them across different types of robots.
Robotics Industry Enters the “Giant Alliance” Era
In recent years, a clear trend has emerged in the robotics industry: robot companies collaborating with AI and chip giants.
The reasons are simple:
Robots require powerful AI computing capabilities
Chip manufacturers need real-world robot applications
This cooperation model can significantly shorten the cycle from R&D to deployment.
As AI chips, embodied intelligence, and robot platforms continue to merge, Physical AI is likely to become a major technological focus in the next decade.
